The devotion of a wife is usually the glue that keeps the family together. But when their efforts are despised or their sacrifices are overlooked, that love can wither. These stories explore how ungrateful husbands took their marriages to the edge of the abyss.
Love does not always consist of great gestures or fleeting moments of passion. Sometimes it’s about recognizing the little things, appreciating the sacrifices and understanding that words can heal or break a heart.

A man makes fun of his wife for being unemployed – Until she leaves and takes everything
It was a bright and cold October morning: the day I had been waiting for. After six months of burning my eyelashes, I was ready to present the new game application in which I had put all my effort. It was time. The opportunity to secure that six-figure salary and finally get the recognition it deserved.
The clock was eight o’clock when I stormed into the dining room, with my eyes glued to the emails on my phone. I barely noticed Sara or our two young children, Cody and Sonny, sitting at the table.

“Good morning, honey,” Sara said softly.
“Good morning, Dad!” the children sang.
I didn’t answer. I had a toast, still absorbed on the phone, and turned to the bedroom to get ready.
“Sara, where’s my white shirt?” I shouted, rummaging through the closet. “I just put it in the washing machine with the other white ones,” I replied.
“What?” I returned to the dining room furious, with frustration on the surface of my skin. “I asked you to wash that shirt three days ago, Sara. You know it’s my lucky shirt. I needed it for today.”

His face blushed and tried to explain himself, but I was already too far away.
“Why can you never do anything right?” I asked him. “What am I supposed to wear now? Today is a great day for me, and you can’t even do a simple task?”
“Harry,” he whispered, with a barely audible voice, “stop screaming. The kids are watching.”
“And do you care about that? But you care enough about me to remember something important to me, huh?”, I sneered. “You spend the day sitting at home doing nothing. All you do is gossip with your friend downstairs. And you can’t even take care of a little thing.”
His eyes got wet, but I was too blinded by anger to realize it.

That day I went to work, passed my presentation and waited for that family vibe to reach my pocket. Sara always called or texted to apologize after our fights. But that night, while I was driving home, my phone was silent.
“You’re still mad at me, huh?” I muttered, passing by the flower shop to buy her favorite white roses as a peace offering.
“Honey, I’m already home!” I shouted, throwing the keys on the counter. I was greeted by silence.
“Sara?” I went to the living room, and then I saw it: a note on the table, held with a red pen.

My hands were shaking as I read it over and over again. It had to be a joke. But it wasn’t.
In a panic, I called her sister, Zara.
“Sara is in the hospital, Harry,” he said in a cold voice.
“In the hospital? What happened?”
“Stress, exhaustion… everything. Because of you.”

I ran to the hospital, but when I saw her, I barely recognized the woman I had once loved. She looked exhausted, with a shattered spirit.
“Harry, no,” he said softly when he tried to explain it to him. “I don’t want to hear it. I’m done. Divorce is all I want.”
“Sara, please… think about the children.”
“I’ve already thought about them. They will stay with you… for now. I’m not in a position to take care of them.”

I thought it was temporary, that I would come back when things calmed down. But a week passed, then a month. When I got home one night, I noticed that something was not going well.
The house was emptier: the clothes, perfume and Sara’s favorite cup with the drawing of the Eiffel Tower had disappeared. He had really left me.
Five months later, everything had fallen apart. The promotion you longed for so much? He had left. I barely clung to my job, I was constantly late and I didn’t meet deadlines. I tried to combine work and children, but it was too much. I was failing in both things.

Then came the call for which I was not prepared.
“Harry, can we meet for a quick chat at five? You know… in the cafeteria where we met…?”
When I saw her sitting there, grabbing a cup of coffee with milk, I felt a glimmer of hope.
“Hello,” I said softly, sitting down.
“Hello… how are the children?” he asked, looking away.

“They’re… fine. What is this about, Sara?”
“I’ve come to talk about them,” she said, her voice choppy. “I… want custody.”
“The custody?!” My heart fell. “After abandoning us as if we didn’t exist, do you now want custody?”
“I wasn’t in a good time, Harry. But now I’m ready. I want my children back.”

The battle for custody was brutal. Sitting in the court, I had to face the truth that I had ignored for so long. Sara didn’t leaft because she didn’t love us: she left because I had broken her spirit.
“I was very depressed,” he told the judge, with a trembling voice. “Harry was always working… always angry. I tried to hold on, but I couldn’t anymore.”
His words pierced me, each of them a dagger of regret. And then the verdict came.
“Mrs. Sara Wills is granted custody.”

Months have passed since that day, but the silence in my house is stronger than ever. Every Sunday, when I pack the boys’ things to send them to Sara, I remember what I lost.
“Dad, aren’t we going to live as a happy family again?” Cody asked in a low voice, his little voice breaking my heart.
I hugged him tightly, with a lump in my throat as I whispered: “I’m very sorry, son.”
As I remained by the door watching Sara take them, I felt a deep and hollow pain in my chest. I had spent so much time chasing success, believing that supporting my family was enough. But I had forgotten the most important thing: to be present.
And now… I had lost everything.

A man mocks his faithful wife and leaves her for another, life leaves him later – Story of the day
The aroma of sizzling spices floated in the air as I set the table, placing a cocktail, a perfectly roasted chicken and all of David’s favorite dishes. “Perfect,” I whispered, with a smile on my lips. Tonight was special: our fifth wedding anniversary. I had done everything to make it unforgettable.
“David, you’re home!” I shouted when I heard the squeak of the front door as it opened.
But instead of a warm smile or an affectionate hug, his eyes ran over me from head to toe, and the corners of his lips twisted with disgust.

“What the hell are you wearing? You look fat with that,” he sneered. His words were like a slap in my face.
My heart plummeted. I bought this dress because she once told me how much she liked blue in me. “Don’t you like it, honey?” I asked in a low voice, just above a whisper. “Today is our fifth anniversary… have you forgotten?”
“Of course not,” he said, his jaw clenched.

I felt relief in my chest. Maybe there was hope after all. Then he took out an envelope from his pocket. I felt a flash of excitement: I had told him how much I wanted to go to Paris for Christmas. Maybe… just maybe…
But when I opened the envelope, my world shattered.
I stumbled back, my eyes clouded by tears. “Tell me it’s a joke,” I whispered, but David’s laughter echoed in the room: a cold and ruthless sound that frore my blood.

“I don’t have time for jokes,” he sneered. “I despise you.”
“Why?” I drowned, barely being able to breathe.
“Get to see,” he said, his eyes squinted with disdain. “You’ve let yourself go. You don’t look anything like the woman I married.”
I begged him and begged him to stay. “We can fix it, David. We can go to therapy. I love you…”.
But I was already packing my bags.

“Therapist?” He mocked. “Allow me to remind you that it’s you who’s sick, not me.”
When he ran down the hall, I ran after him, trying to stop him. But then…
“Someone is waiting for me in the car,” he said, and his lips curled into a cruel smile.
“Jessica,” he said with sick pride. “My secretary. Always fit, polished and sexy.”
I felt the air leave my lungs. “Were you… cheating on me?”
“Bingo!” he smiled. “Two tickets: one for me and one for the future I deserve.”

The days turned into weeks as I tried to pick up the broken pieces of my life. I burned the photos of our wedding and all the memories we had built together. But the pain in my heart refused to disappear.
Then, one day, my best friend Veronica appeared.
“Meg, I’ve been calling you all week!” he exclaimed, with concern engraved on his face.
“He’s gone,” I whispered, with a hollow voice.
“David? Let him go!”, he sneered. “I warned you, Meg. He was an idiot.”
“But… how do I move on?”

“Pill up the pieces,” said Veronica, eyes full of determination, “and find happiness. The kind that doesn’t depend on someone else’s validation.”
“How am I supposed to do that?”
With a mischievous smile, he took my phone and installed a dating app.
“It’s time for you to stop crying over the Titanic and board a new ship!”
I rolled my eyes, but I let him do his magic. And that’s how I met Robert.
A simple “Hello, you look gorgeous!” appeared on my screen one night. I had just come out of the shower, with only a towel covering me and the patches under my eyes on. Embarrassed, I panicked and closed the application.

But when his message reappeared the next morning, I was curious.
“Hello, I’m Robert,” he wrote. “But my friends call me Rob.”
“Megan,” I replied. “My friends call me Meg.”
His words seemed to me… different. Warm. Genuine. Before I realized it, he invited me to dinner.

The aroma of English roses and shea butter adhered to my skin when I looked in the mirror that night, ready to meet Rob. The nerves danced in my stomach, but I was willing to take a risk.
But just when I was about to leave…
“Are you going somewhere tonight?” David’s voice echoed in the room when he entered strutting, without invitation.
“I’ll just… go out,” I murmured, grabbing the bag tightly.

“Have you already signed the papers?” His tone was impregnated with indifference.
“It’s on the table,” I replied, with a firm voice.
“Are we already moving forward?” he sneered, looking at me from top to bottom.
But for the first time in years… I didn’t care what he thought.

Rob was everything David was not: kind, attentive and genuine. He listened to me when he spoke and laughed at my silly jokes. After a few months of dating, he asked me to marry him.
“Read you to spend eternity with me?” Rob whispered one night, holding out a dazzling ring to me.
“Yes,” I exhaled, with tears of happiness filling my eyes.
Months later, while I was sitting in a restaurant waiting for Rob, a familiar voice slipped through the noise.
I turned around… and there he was. David

“You look… great,” he murmured, his confidence replaced by hesitation.
“I’m fine,” I said, in a calm and serene voice.
“Jessica and I… we’re going
to separate,” he said, his eyes full of regret.
“I’m sorry to hear that,” I said, although I didn’t feel it.
“I made a mistake, Megan. Leaving you… was the biggest mistake of my life.”
Before I could answer, Rob’s voice echoed next to me.
“Excuse me, can I help you?”

David’s eyes opened wide when Rob held out his hand.
“I’m Rob, Megan’s fiancé.”
David’s face turned pale when he saw the reality.
“Ready to go, beautiful?” Rob asked, and his warm gaze crossed with mine.
“Yes,” I said, sliding my hand between his.
As we walked away, I felt that a sense of unknown peace invaded me. I was no longer tied by the pain of my past.
David was no longer more than a distant memory. And as I walked towards my future, I was sure of one thing: I had finally found the love I deserved.

A man makes fun of his wife for getting fat after giving birth, but discovers the painful truth in his diary
For as long as I can remember, I have combined work and home effortlessly. As an accountant for an important company in Santa Clara, I worked long hours, but I took time to make sure everything was perfect at home.
Chad, my husband, had been my greatest support. He always helped me at home and encouraged me on the most difficult days. But after giving birth to our twins, Lucas and Charlie, everything changed.

After years of trying to conceive, seeing those two pink lines in the pregnancy test was the happiest moment of our lives. Chad was ecstatic, and so was I. When the twins arrived, I decided to take a break from work to take care of them. I thought Chad would understand, but I was wrong.
“All you do is sit on that couch, Lisa,” Chad sneered one day as he sway the babies. “At least start exercising. Look how much weight you’ve gained after pregnancy.”
I smiled weakly, taking it off, thinking that I was stressed about work. But the comments did not stop.
“Losing a few kilos wouldn’t hurt you, you know?”

At first, I tried to ignore it. I was too exhausted to argue. Between the sleepless nights, feeding the twins and taking care of the house, I barely had time for myself. But the pain increased with each comment.
I noticed that Chad was getting distant. He no longer recognized the little things he did: how he kept the house spotless, cooked his favorite meals and took care of the twins. When he suggested that we spend time together, he discarded him and went to bed.
One night, I plucked up courage and faced him.
“Honey,” I said softly. “I know the work has been stressful, but we promised to be honest with each other. What’s going on?”
“Nothing, Lisa,” he replied, his eyes glued to the laptop.

“Are you sure? Because it seems to me that…”.
“What do you think, Lisa?” He raised his voice suddenly, with a flash of irritation in his eyes. “Can you let me work quietly? Why do you have to stick your nose in everything? Use that energy to work on yourself. When was the last time you looked in the mirror?”
My eyes filled with tears. “Chad…”
“What? Are you going to cry now and make me look like the bad guy?” he said. “Look at your friends… and look at yourself. Why can’t you lose a little weight?”

I kept my pain repressed, hoping that things would get better. I tried everything: I got up early to do yoga, took long walks and even followed a strict diet. But it wasn’t enough for Chad.
“Do you do it on purpose so that I leave you? Or… are you seeing someone behind my back? Where do you disappear every morning?” he accused me one day.
“Are you serious, Chad?” I whispered, with a broken voice.
“How am I going to know? You don’t care anymore. Maybe you’ve realized that we’re not going to last,” he murmured before leaving angrily.

The days passed in a painful silence. Then, one night, while I was preparing dinner, everything turned black.
“Lisa!”. Chad’s panicked voice was the last thing I heard before I collapsed.
When I woke up, I was in the hospital. The doctor’s words echoed in my ears.
“She’s exhausted and stressed. His body is too weak to handle.”

Chad seemed agitated as he held my hand, but I was too tired to talk.
That night, Chad returned home while I remained in the hospital. While he was tidying up the bedroom, something caught his attention: a small leather-bound book: my diary.
At first, he hesitated. Reading your diary is not good, Chad. But he was curious.

Chad seems distant these days. I hope it’s just work stress. I miss how things were between us.
Chad made fun of my weight today. I’ve tried very hard, but he doesn’t notice. I don’t know if he loves me anymore. I feel invisible.
Chad’s heart tightened as he turned the pages.
I came up with a plan! I will surprise Chad by losing weight before our anniversary. I’ve been getting up early to go to the gym. It’s exhausting, but I just want him to look at me like before.

I feel so weak. Those gym supplements are making me sick. But I can’t stop. Chad’s words haunt me. I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to do this…
Chad’s hands trembled as guilt consumed him. I was so blind… How did I not realize?

The next morning, when I opened my eyes in the hospital, I was surprised to see Chad next to me. A bouquet of my favorite lilies and a card rested next to me.
“Get well soon, honey. The children and I miss you. The home is not the same without you…”.
My eyes filled with tears when I looked at him.
“I’m so sorry, Lisa,” Chad whispered, his voice full of emotion. “I was blind. I hurt you and I can never forgive you.”
“No, Lisa. I have to tell you this,” he said softly, holding my hand. “You’re beautiful just the way you are. I was too blind to see how much you did for us. I’ll never let you feel like this again.”
When I got home, Chad surprised me with a candlelight dinner and soft music playing in the background.

“Would you dance with me, Mrs. Thompson?” he asked me, with his eyes full of warmth.
“Yes,” I whispered, with tears of relief in my eyes.
That night I knew that Chad had changed. He was attentive, understanding and affectionate again. He reminded me every day that I was perfect just the way I was.
Chad became a different man after that day. He helped me with the twins, went out with me on weekends and filled me with love and appreciation.
I keep going to the gym, but now I do it for myself, not for anyone else.
