A little officer distributes flowers and hugs to the elderly in nursing homes once a week to make them smile

Oliver Davis, of Westchester Village in Lenexa, was no ordinary kid. He was unique and remarkably different due to his impressive personality – a matter of pure pride and joy for his mother, Brandi Davis.

As a parent, it made Brandi happy to see her son engage in acts of love and compassion. Like any other youngster, Oliver had aspirations, dreams and goals that he wanted to pursue with every fiber of his being. So when he told his mom he wanted to be a cop, it didn’t surprise her.

Out of sheer curiosity, Oliver once asked his mother about the jobs the police did and she told him that their main job was to help people.

It didn’t take long for the nice guy to realize that he had the passion and drive to be a police officer and wanted to serve the community.

As a result, the brave little cop was surprised with an honorary police badge.

Brandi said her boy innocently replied that he was a real cop and that as part of his job, he was supposed to help people. He, therefore, did not arrive empty-handed when he visited his great-grandmother in her retirement home. Oliver had stopped by a florist before and bought some beautiful roses.

When he met his great-grandmother, he gave her a bright smile, handed her a flower, and hugged her. Later, he greeted the other elderly residents of the nursing home and gave them each a pretty flower.

He also asked his mother if he could hug them, and upon her approval, he tenderly embraced the senior members of the nursing facility and had a little chat with them.

After her first visit to the nursing home in 2017, Brandi said her baby boy was so addicted he came running up to her and asked if he could do it again.

So began Oliver’s journey through nursing homes in Kansas and Missouri, and in 2018 alone, Brandi said her seven-year-old son gave out more than 15,000 flowers.

Dressed in his police uniform, the little man was often seen buying flowers for the elderly, a job he took seriously and performed to the best of his abilities.

Once he had enough flowers to give all his elderly friends, he made a grand entrance on his white motorbike. In addition to flowers, Oliver gave cards and “tickets” to anyone who committed a surprisingly unknown offense. The ticket said:

“Violation – you got a ticket for being too cute. »

What was meant to be a visit to her great-grandmother became a catalyst for something far more meaningful and heartbreaking? Reflecting on his weekly visits to nursing homes and why he was handing out flowers, hugs, and tickets, Oliver had the sweetest response: “I like to make people smile. It’s one of my favorites. »

When the little officer with the gigantic heart first handed out roses to the elderly, his story created a ripple effect and reached the Leawood Police Department. As a result, the brave little cop was surprised with an honorary police badge.

Courtney O’Connor, executive director of Westchester Village of Lenexa, praised Oliver for his genuine heart and noted that seniors loved his kind gesture. “Oliver was very caring and compassionate and gave everyone a hug,” O’Connor added.

Brandi, who supports her serving officer son and loves seeing him interact with the elderly, shared that Oliver saved money to buy the flowers. He sometimes used his own Christmas money and started receiving donations from members of his community when his story gained momentum.

Every time he stopped to talk to residents, he offered them a rose, asked if they could use a hug, then threw his arms around them. Many applauded the boy for his wonderful heart, and one senior member even told him that the world could use more loving souls like him.
