Amazing news came from Nigeria. A 68-year-old woman and her 77-year-old husband became parents after 46 years of fruitless attempts to get pregnant and have a baby.
New parents are very lucky. As is often the case, after IVF, two embryos took root and both survived.
This was their fourth attempt. The previous three procedures were unsuccessful. Despite her age, the Nigerian managed not only to carry babies, but also to give birth to them at the 37th week of pregnancy.
Of course, there was no question of natural childbirth for a 68-year-old mother, the doctors performed a caesarean section on her. To the surprise of the doctors, she felt well, the babies were also born healthy and strong enough.
The birth took place in a Lagos hospital, where the woman was observed throughout the pregnancy. Local doctors did not immediately tell reporters about the miracle they had witnessed, but waited a few days for the mother and her twins to get stronger in order to give interviews and take pictures for the press. Journalists, you know, could not get around such a story.
The father is happy! He admitted that he and his wife had been waiting for this moment all their lives.
Doctors say that with the help of IVF, a woman can become pregnant at any age, but they do not recommend experimenting – pregnancy and childbirth after 50 years can significantly undermine health and can even be life-threatening.
