He didn’t seem abandoned. He had a collar, and the coat looked clean. I stroked him, waited with him for the owner, but minutes passed, and no one came, ”recalls Mejia. All this time the dog, without taking his eyes off, looked at the ocean.
The family decided that the dog was stray and started thinking about adopting it. At that moment, a local resident walked beside them. Mejia asked him about the owners of the dog – and then they heard from him the sad story of the animal.
“He explained to us that practically everyone in the area knows the dog and loves it very much,” Mejia says. “Its owner was a fisherman, but he passed away about a year ago. Now the dog comes to the beach every day and looks at the sea.”
Now the locals take care of the dog themselves. People feed her, let her into their homes and, if necessary, take her to the doctor. The local veterinarian said the dog’s name is Vaguito and he is in the care of a woman who lives nearby.
