How an 80-year-old grandmother knitted 2,000 baby hats to donate to a children’s hospital

After her retirement, 80-year-old Doris Bender from the United States did not know what to do with her. Watching TV for days on end brought her little pleasure, and then Doris had a super idea. She began knitting beautiful hats for babies and donating them to the children’s hospital. In just 3 years, the pensioner knitted as many as 2,000 of these hats and “hit” the main news of her town. A real grandma-record holder!

“I just want to stay active”
In an interview, Doris spoke about her unusual hobby. “Even after I retire, I want to stay active. Many women of my age turn into lazy and grumbling old women, but I think this is wrong. You should find a hobby that will benefit both you and others. For me, knitting hats for babies has become a favorite thing, ”the pensioner shared.

Doris also admitted that she had never knitted children’s things before. However, she mastered this work, because she had a great desire to do something interesting and useful for others.
Doris sends baby hats to the hospital in small batches.

“When 60-80 pieces are ready, I give them to the nurses in the maternity ward. For boys, I make neat blue, red and blue hats, and for girls – pink and white, decorated with flowers and hearts, ”said the pensioner.

By the way, Doris never singled out the kids who got her generous gifts. However, recently the woman did meet two lovely twins – Alina and Maisie, who received white and pink hats from Doris.

Apparently, the pensioner is very happy that she was able to find herself in the field of helping newborns. A true role model!
