How their eyes shine: the police fulfilled the dream of special children

Photographer Carrie Lewis, with the support of the Rapid City police, helped 3 boys with special needs toss. Despite genetic anomalies, dreams in children are the most common. These guys want to be cops! Let’s see how simple employees made a childhood dream come true!

Carrie Lewis accidentally found out about 13-year-old Zane, 11-year-old Owen and 7-year-old Elliot, who live in South Dakota. Of course, outwardly the guys are different from other children, but inwardly they also dream of growing up and benefiting society. Thanks to the photographer, the guys were able to get an unusual gift – a photo shoot with real police officers.

Zayn was diagnosed with Down syndrome. Elliot has several difficult diagnoses, and doctors also stated that the boy was suffering from cerebral palsy. Owen was diagnosed with Angelman’s syndrome, with such a disease the child cannot fully develop, his mental development lags far behind his peers.

But all the guys are united not only by illnesses, but also by a common dream! They all want to grow up and work in the police, protect their city and serve the good of society.

Thanks to Carrie and the police, the guys’ dream came true! “I was amazed at how organized the employees of the city department approached my request. They even blocked traffic in order to deliver the necessary equipment and cars to the filming site, ”recalls the photographer.

At this photo session, the guys performed in the desired role – a policeman. They not only took pictures with the police department, but also had the opportunity to try on their uniforms, sit behind the wheel of a real police car and turn on flashing lights.

“I saw their faces glow with happiness and their eyes shine. This is exactly what I wanted to achieve. After all, it was clear that their dream came true! ”, Carrie writes.

The girl organized such an unusual photo session for children with special needs in order to fill their lives with positive emotions at least for a while and leave happy moments in their memory.

This is an incredible move! The guys, photographer and staff got a lot of pleasure from what is happening. And on the website of the police department there was even an inscription: “We are happy that we were able to help the guys fulfill their dream and spend an unforgettable day!”.

“With this photo shoot, I wanted to show those photographers who refuse to work with “special” children that they are also people, with sincere emotions, desires and needs. You just need to get rid of stereotypes and look at these guys in a new way! ”, Says the author of the photo shoot.

Such an act really makes sense. After all, if there are more people in the world who want to help “special children”, then their lives will be filled with joy and fun.
