Upon his return to his Adelaide apartment from New Zealand, Folco Faber barely avoided stepping on an eastern brown snake—
the second most poisonous terrestrial snake globally—that had infiltrated his home during his absence. Engrossed in his cat, Lily, Faber first overlooked the snake until it was almost under his feet. Alarmed,
he withdrew with Lily and engaged a professional snake catcher, who effectively extracted the animal. The catcher saw many injuries on the snake, presumably caused by Lily during Faber’s absence.
Both the catcher and Faber recognised Lily’s lucky survival after encountering such a dangerous beast. This occurrence highlights the need of attention over possible animal invasions in residences, especially in areas populated by hazardous species.
It also underscores the dangers domestic animals may confront when interacting with such species.
