Mom saw her son’s first steps when he was 25 years old. And all thanks to a stranger who returned her memory

Jim McKay is a guy from Austin, Texas, USA, who at the end of 2019 bought an old TV with a built-in VHS video player at a Goodwill thrift store. Jim didn’t need the TV itself – he chose the right size to use instead of a stand for a video projector. The purchase served him for several months for this purpose, until at the beginning of January 2020, the guy finally decided to turn it on.

Jim connected the TV to the network, and it turned out to be working. Then he decided to find out if the VCR was working, wanted to insert a cassette, but noticed that there was already one inside. McKay started recording, and it turned out to be a short 18-minute home video recorded on September 27, 1994. The video included a cute family scene where the baby learned to walk and took his first steps. Jim realized that he had to find a family, fortunately, he already had a clue – a fragment of a sticker with the name Tyre remained on the cassette body.

McKay digitized the tape, supplemented it with comments, and posted it on his YouTube channel on January 4, asking viewers to help find his family.

I recently found this home video in a VCR I bought from Goodwill in north Austin, Texas. It is 1994. This family looks amazing, maybe someone knows them? If you recognize the name or people, share this video with them. If you are a member of this family, I will gladly return the film to you.

The story interested journalists of local publications and TV channels. They talked with the guy and made several stories for television.

“This is a very important moment in the life of a child, and it will never happen again. I want to return the record to the family, I fell in love with them and I think they are amazing. If I can help them, it will be the perfect story,” McKay told KVUE.

And one of these stories was seen by the mother of a baby recorded on tape back in 1994. By this point, she had completely forgotten about the existence of the recording, and the boy himself – Alexander, who is now 25 years old – did not at all know that his first steps were recorded on video. The Tyre family contacted Jim using the contacts he left on January 6, which the guy happily informed his Facebook followers about.

Oh my god, the Tyres just called me!!! We finally found them!!!

For the cassette, Alexander himself came to McKay, who became strikingly similar to his father in his youth. Friendship immediately struck up between the guys.

You can watch the reunion of a grown baby with a recording of his first steps and admire the family video itself right here.

“It was nice to hear how excited he is to return this record to my family. The cassette is just a treasure, ”said Alexander.

According to Tyre, his family does not even remember how long ago they got rid of the old TV, but they believe that one of them simply forgot to check the player before selling it.
