Not like everyone else: How Chinese albino Connie Chiu conquered the podium

Every year more and more albino girls get into the modeling business, but one of the first fashion models with snow-white skin and hair was the Asian beauty Connie Chiu.

She was born in 1969 in China and came as a big surprise to her parents. The birth of a girl with albinism in Hong Kong is a rather rare occurrence for that time, but Connie’s mom and dad took the unique daughter as a gift from higher powers.

Chiu, like many other people with albinism, was forced to wear dark glasses and avoid direct sunlight. Existing in this way in China was quite a difficult task, so Connie’s family decided to leave their homeland and move to Sweden 7 years after the birth of their daughter. The sunlight of the Scandinavian country turned out to be softer, and the life of little Chiu became noticeably easier.

After graduating from one of the Swedish colleges, Connie entered a literary university, and after successfully completing her studies, she found her vocation – she became a fashion model. The unusual Asian woman took her first steps in this business with the support of her sister, who was studying to be a fashion designer.

After appearing in several shows of her collections, Chiu gets noticed by the right people and takes part in premium fashion shows from Jean Paul Galtier, and by the age of 25 she has collaborated with dozens of top-notch photographers such as Heidi Nyemala, Morten Schmidt, Paul Burnley and Terry Richardson.

After many years of working as a model, Connie became interested in photography and began not only to pose, but also to take pictures. And a little while later, Chiu became seriously ill with music and put her work in the modeling business on a short pause. Now Connie is singing, playing some music and enjoying the life she has earned with her talent and hard work.

In this way, an unusual appearance helped a woman from Asia build a long-term modeling career in Europe, and then also discover the talent of a photographer and musician.
