In Nigeria, the case of one child made headlines, and his photos were published, breaking hearts around the world. The little boy’s name was Hope…
In January 2016, Anja Ringgren Lovén, founder of the African Children’s Aid Education and Development Foundation, found a two-year-old child wandering the streets, completely emaciated, hungry, and on the brink of death.
This abandoned child had been forced to fend for himself and had become a victim due to false beliefs in witchcraft, as many others have.
Anja immediately took the child into her care and took him to the hospital for intensive treatment and a blood transfusion. One could say that Hope had a guardian angel in the form of this woman.
After the publication of photos of Hope with his rescuer, the organization received donations amounting to one million dollars from around the world to save this unfortunate child.
Furthermore, these donations allowed Anja to create an organization to help children who have been abused and accused of witchcraft, build a medical clinic, and rescue these children from torture.
But the greatest humanitarian gift was the kindness and empathy of the Danish Anja.
Today, Hope is growing up normally and has started attending school in the orphanage established by Anja and her husband. Regardless of these rituals, the consequences are often horrific. These victims often face abandonment, discrimination, violence, torture, and even death.
Such physical or psychological cruelty is a violation of children’s rights as outlined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
