It’s certainly not the first time we’ve heard about the power of love. It can upheave our lives, overwhelm us like a flooding river; sometimes, it leaves scars, other times, it births a new family.

The story we’re about to tell you is proof that for love, we are willing to do anything, even change our lives. Caroline Knight is a 33-year-old British yoga teacher who traveled to Peru for work: she was supposed to participate in a retreat in the Amazon to teach this “philosophy” to the local population. But she did not expect to be so captivated by the place; she never returned.

She had planned a stay of about ten days, a long and tiring journey: “I had to go to Puerto Maldonado first, from there it took another two hours, a boat crossing, and a long walk to reach the village where I was supposed to teach; I was exhausted, but the place had extraordinary vibrations.”

Caroline’s traveling group quickly got to know some local people, and Caroline was pleasantly struck by one of these inhabitants. Rómulo is a shy and reserved 19-year-old young man who immediately caught the woman’s attention: “He stood apart, but when I managed to talk to him alone, he seemed very kind and authentic.” The interest was mutual, and the two began to form increasingly close bonds.

Unfortunately, bureaucratic complications prevented them from continuing to deepen their connection. Caroline was not discouraged, and while all her fellow travelers returned home, she stayed in this distant country, renting a room in Puerto for a few pounds a day.
However, they continued to stay in touch, exchanging messages and videos. It was the distance that made them realize their feelings for each other: “I have something to tell you; I think I love you,” he writes to her one day on Facebook, “I think I love you too,” she replies.
