Siamese twins were able to see each other for the first time only after they were separated

Girls Ervina and Prefina Bangalo were born with fused necks. When neurosurgeons conducted an examination, they discovered a rare form of pathology in which some important vessels of the brain were common in girls.

The hospital management was instrumental in sending the newborns to the Vatican Children’s Hospital to receive expert advice on the possibility of separation. In the hospital, the girls underwent several operations, the purpose of which was to create a new blood circulation. The last operation lasted 18 hours and involved a team of 30 medical workers. And, fortunately, it ended successfully.

Carlo Marras, head of the department of pediatric neurosurgery, who is responsible for the treatment of Ervina and Prefina, noted that his team had been preparing for the separation of the twins for almost two years. According to his forecasts, the girls have every chance for a normal life after rehabilitation.

An MRI scan confirmed that the brains of both girls were not damaged. This is the first successful operation of its kind. Now the forecasts of doctors are very optimistic. They assure that after a course of rehabilitation, the girls will be able to live a full life. The girl’s mother, Ermine, has no education, but she really hopes that her daughters will be able to get it, and, perhaps, will also become doctors who will save people’s lives.

The girls’ mother, Ermine Nzotto, admitted that she never went to school. However, she hopes that her daughters will be able to get a decent education and become doctors. “I hope they become doctors and can save the lives of other children,” she stressed. Not to thank the hospital staff who took a huge risk and successfully performed the operation to separate her daughters.
