Mom had cooked a very delicious lunch and called my dad and me to the table. At that moment, my dad and I were playing with toy cars in the living room. He was playing with me, pretending to bring a car for me to refuel with gasoline. Just as we were about to go for lunch, there was a loud crash from the kitchen. I got scared and ran to see what had happened.

He was playing with me, pretending to bring a car for me to refuel with gasoline. Just as we were about to go for lunch, there was a loud crash from the kitchen. I got scared and ran to see what had happened.
My mother was lying on the floor, not moving, and something red was coming from her mouth. My dad, with trembling hands, grabbed the phone and called an ambulance. Then he picked up my mom and placed her on the couch. He was holding her, crying, and shaking her cheeks, shouting, «Please don’t leave, the doctors are on their way.» I couldn’t understand what was happening. My beloved mom was just lying there.
My mom always used to play with me. On the playground, we played tag together, built sandcastles, climbed ladders, and went down slides. My favorite game was when she would chase me on my scooter, but she was so fast that she could catch me in no time and lift me up high, just like an astronaut. Lately, though, my mom had very little energy left. She said she had given all her strength to me so that I could grow up strong and healthy. She stopped going outside and only played with me at home while sitting on the couch.
The ambulance arrived very quickly, and they put my mom on a stretcher and into the ambulance. My dad took me to our neighbor, Baba Masha, and then went to the hospital with my mom. I stood by the window and watched them leave. I didn’t even feel like playing; I just missed my mom terribly. I was worried that the doctors were giving her a very painful shot.
My dad came back to get me when it was already dark outside. He talked to Baba Masha, and they were both crying, but I couldn’t understand what they were saying. He told her that my mom had leukemia, and when they brought her to the hospital, she fell into a coma. The doctors didn’t offer any guarantees if she would ever come back to us. My dad took me in his arms, hugged me tightly, and said, «Everything will be alright.»
Two months had passed, and my mom was still in the hospital. My dad visited her every day, but I couldn’t see her. He said the doctors wouldn’t allow it. But then the day came when we received a call from the hospital, telling us to come see my mom. I was overjoyed at the thought of seeing her again, but my dad seemed to be crying for some reason.
We rushed to the hospital. When we got there, my dad took me by the hand, led me to my mom’s room, and said, «Son, you’re a real man. You need to say goodbye to your mom.» I entered the room, and my mom was lying on the hospital bed with her eyes open. Tubes were everywhere. I tried to hold back my tears, knowing that I had to be strong. I took her hand.
«Mommy, if you can hear me, blink.» And she did. My beloved mom blinked her eyes. My dad rushed into the room with hope in his eyes, and my mom blinked again. She was coming back to us. We sat there, my dad, my mom, and me, and we cried tears of happiness.
