A woman searched for a biological father for several years on a social network, but instead she found a more interesting family surprise. She continued her search not alone, but together with a relative, whose existence she had not known all her life.
Briton Lisa McLean from the city of Nottingham last saw her father David Riggs when she was nine years old – in 1996, before the man went missing. When she turned 18, the woman began the search for her missing parent, posting ads on the Web, which for years did not bring results. Everything changed in 2016.
That year, she still could not reach her dad, but her efforts paid off: 33-year-old Lisa was written by the grandmother of 24-year-old Rebecca Parton, whom McLean was unfamiliar with. The words of the old woman quickly changed the situation: it turned out that both women were looking for the same person, but they were united not only by this.
After a short conversation, Lisa and Rebecca realized that they were sisters on their father’s side, which was later finally confirmed by a DNA test, which can not only solve crimes, but also destroy families. In the case of two relatives, the revelation did not frighten them at all, because they became inseparable.
Despite the pleasant discovery of family secrets and the acquisition of new family members, Rebecca and Lisa did not give up trying to find their father. The youngest of the girls had never even seen him in person. She also started a serious search for a man quite late, only after the death of her mother.
It took a long time to wait for any shifts in the mission: only four years later, at the end of November 2020, a man named David knocked on Lisa’s friends on Facebook. At first, the woman did not attach any importance to this, because over the years of searching, many people with whom she had no family ties wrote to her, but soon she had to change her mind.
The man was able to easily identify all the people in old family photos, and at the same time recall events that only Lisa and her mother could know about. There was no doubt – the daughter finally communicated with her real father, David Riggs. Soon the good news reached Rebecca, who was beside herself with happiness.
The three began to communicate with each other and agreed to meet, which took place on December 6 – just before Christmas. After more than two decades, the father finally met his daughters, whom he had also been looking for for several years.
I found them by accident when I looked into the phone and saw that these two women were looking for their father, but I did not recognize them. They could pass me on the street and I wouldn’t recognize them. When I saw my photo, I thought: “Wow, why is my photo on the web?” And when I read their publication, I burst into tears,” David said.
The meeting brought many surprises to each participant: the man found out that he had grandchildren, and the women discovered that they had another sister. Now the family plans to celebrate Christmas and New Year in full force.
The reunion went great, David got to see his grandchildren, but we all have a lot of catching up to do. The only phrase I can use to describe what happened, no matter how trite it may sound, is a Christmas miracle, ”Lisa shared her feelings.
