The mother refused to remove her comatose son and continued to pray until she finally heard the word mom

It was a typical day for Bobby Asa, then 16 years old. He was parking his car in the driveway after having a good time at his friend’s house. Suddenly he felt a jolt. What happened next became a nightmare for his family.

Everyone knew Bobby as an energetic and fun boy who always made others smile.
While he was having fun, he had no idea that a car accident would change his life. Little did the teenager know he would go into a coma and not open his eyes for days.

He was returning to his father when something unexpected happened. A few minutes after midnight on June 27, 2017, the unthinkable happened.

The Asa family’s worst nightmare came to life after a vehicle rammed the young man’s car as it pulled into the driveway.

A little later, his sister, Lexie Asa, called 911, after learning what had happened to her younger brother.

First responders arrived at the crash site and found Bobby lying unconscious in the back seat of his car. Wasting no time, he was transferred to the nearest hospital.

Meanwhile, Lexie quickly informed her mother, Heather, of the incident. The woman lived an hour from the father of the children and immediately went to the hospital after receiving the call from her daughter.

“I didn’t know what else to do but pray,” Heather said. She couldn’t stop thinking about her children as she drove to the hospital. The times she had spent with her children flashed before her eyes.

Later that night, the family returned their son to the hospital.

Paramedic Lt. Chris Baird, who had seen the boy shortly after the accident, said:

“Over the years, seeing patients so seriously injured, I couldn’t see how there could be a positive outcome. »

Doctors did all they could to treat Bobby’s injuries and his family prayed for him to open his eyes. Specialists had even predicted that the boy would be paralyzed if he survived.

After doctors monitored Bobby for more than a week in intensive care, where he was on a ventilator, they gave the family a few options.

Some doctors suggested surgery, while others told the family to take her off life support.

As the teenager was unresponsive, specialists believed he would not survive, but Heather believed otherwise.

“I felt like Bobby was going to get better,” the mother said.

Heather refused to remove her son from life support, telling doctors to perform the tracheostomy. She felt that her son would not spend the rest of his life in bed and began to pray that he would open his eyes.

Sometimes he would shake his head at his sister’s voice, while other times he would move an arm or an elbow. These small movements gave a lot of hope to his family.

After Bobby’s condition improved, about four weeks after the incident, doctors transferred him to rehab. He started to answer, but didn’t say anything until one day he said, “Mom!”

Heather confessed that she started crying uncontrollably after hearing her son speak. Bobby spent another six weeks in rehab.

There he learned basic skills such as walking, eating and moving his limbs. Doctors allowed him to return home in October 2017.

“I watch Bobby every day and it’s a miracle that he walks and talks,” the mother confessed. Seeing the young man come back to life strengthened the family’s faith in God.
