The premature twin saved his brother’s life after hugging him

The boys were born prematurely last year. Dylan weighed 907 grams and Deiniol 861 grams. Doctors feared that the second boy might not survive. But the incredible happened when the doctors put the kids in one incubator. Mom is sure that one of the twins saved the weak brother with his hugs.

Twin boys were born at 25 weeks of gestation. They had poorly developed lungs, so the boys were sent to the neonatal intensive care unit. Dylan was released from the hospital after 2 weeks. Deiniol remained in the incubator, connected to breathing apparatus. It was wrapped in special bags to keep it warm and humid. Doctors told 28-year-old mother Hanna Zimunje that he had a low chance of surviving. The baby’s condition only worsened.

At some point, the doctors invited the whole family to say goodbye to the baby. Hannah and her 40-year-old husband Javi decided it was only fair to bring Dylan with them. They thought that he, too, should see Deiniol. The child was placed with his brother in an incubator.

The adults didn’t expect Dylan to hug his twin. They spent 5 minutes together. Within a few hours, Deiniol’s condition began to improve. The oxygen level began to rise. Doctors asked mom to bring the twin in 2 more days. It was incredible! It is not clear how Dylan, just being next to his brother, managed to help him.

I did not expect this at all, nurses and doctors too. Two days after the embrace, Deiniol was taken off the ventilator. It was a miracle and showed us that it was not necessary to separate them. Here it is the proof that the connection between the twins really exists.

Experts still cannot explain why skin-to-skin contact between a weak child and a parent or other loved one can energize him. Deiniol spent a total of 7 months in the hospital. During this time, he got stronger and was discharged home. Doctors cannot say for sure what helped the baby. But the mother of the twins is sure that his brother’s hugs healed him. The boys celebrated their first birthday a month ago. Deiniol continues to wear an oxygen mask at home, but he is doing well.
