“When the grandparents were left with their grandson by the parents, they were overjoyed. But soon, the poor woman realized that there was nothing to be happy about.”

Grandmother Marianna lived in a modest wooden house. Her children lived in the city but had promised to bring their grandchildren to visit her. Grandma wanted to see how her only grandson, Ernest, was growing up. So, her daughter, along with her husband and son, came for the summer. The young couple decided to leave their child with the grandmother for a whole week because they were going on vacation.
Marianna was thrilled. Her grandson turned out to be very kind and obedient. Even when his parents got into the car, he didn’t cry. He just waved goodbye. But Ernest – what a strange name. Marianna decided that treating her grandson would be a nice idea. She baked a blueberry pie. The little child wandered around the room, examining everything with a thoughtful look on his face. He continued to open and close creaky doors because they seemed interesting to him. The creaking of the door hinges went unnoticed by his grandmother.

“Would you like some milk?” she asked. “I have to stick to my schedule. Understand?”

“What does he mean?” She thought.

He silently ate his porridge for dinner and went to bed. The cat Murka started to scratch at his leg, but he simply pushed her away with his foot. His grandmother pretended not to notice. He got out of bed, washed up, brushed his teeth, and had breakfast. Grandma gave him a piece of blueberry pie, and he ate it with pleasure. Only then did he notice that something blue-black had stained his hands. “What’s this?” he asked.
Grandma told him it was blueberries and that his tongue would turn black too. He asked for a mirror to see his tongue when he opened his mouth. Seeing this, he hurried to the bathroom to brush his teeth and slammed the door. Why did he specifically slam the door?

The next morning, after brushing his teeth, the grandson got out of bed and said, “Will you not tell my parents that I don’t do morning exercises?” “Of course not. Have your breakfast,” she replied. To tend to her chores, she went outside.
