A 91-year-old widow was alone in her house when she felt the danger: two thieves were trying to break in to rob her. However, the older woman mocked the criminals by devising a trap for them.
When Victor asked for Dolores’ hand in marriage, he promised her that they would stay together until the end of their lives and even leave together for their heavenly home.

But, unfortunately, fate was not so kind with his plans and unexpectedly one day left Dolores due to a heart attack. After Victor died, his wife was left alone.

Victor was a well-known antique shop in the city and owned a small antique shop that was working quite well.
He also stored some of his valuable pieces at home, which the neighbors quickly noticed and gossiped. That led to a series of attempted burglaries in the couple’s store and home.
As a result, when Victor died, Dolores felt insecure at home. She was alone, and everyone in her neighborhood knew it. So, even when her neighbors offered to help her, she was too afraid to accept their collaboration.
One night, Dolores was returning home from her store when she noticed that her 31-year-old neighbor Bob was looking inside her house through the front door. When he saw Dolores approaching, he quickened his steps and walked away, pretending that he hadn’t seen her.
Dolores had heard rumors that Bob was an alcoholic and unemployed, and that his wife had left him. The man had been living alone in his house since then, and drank all day or wandered around the neighborhood, delighting his eyes with other women.
The widow ignored Bob at first because she knew he was a weirdo. However, the next day, she caught him looking at her. She was sitting on her balcony reading a book, and when she was about to move on to the next chapter, she noticed that he was looking at her through the window of his room.

She was scared by the way he stared at her, so she went in and closed the door to her balcony. Later, when he looked out the window to see if he was still there and noticed that Bob had disappeared.
The older woman suspected that something was not right since that day. As a result, she was extremely cautious and frequently closed all doors and windows.

However, one night, while he was going to the kitchen to make some tea, he heard a strange noise in his backyard. She tried to stay calm, although she was scared.
He took a frying pan and slowly opened the back door. His house was quite old, so the door creawed when it opened. When he left, he saw that Bob and another man jumped the wooden fence of the backyard and left.
“I’ll call the police if you don’t leave! What the hell are you doing here?” Dolores shouted at them when she saw them come out of a bush, but they fled without saying anything. When Dolores checked her backyard, she discovered several bottles of beer lying there.
The widow couldn’t sleep peacefully that night. Every time he closed his eyes, his mind thought again about the possibility that Bob and his accomplice had tried to hurt him. “What if they hadn’t escaped? What happens if something goes wrong?”
I knew that things were getting dangerous and that I needed to do something. But he couldn’t even tell the police until he had solid evidence against Bob. Dolores reasoned that the only option she had was to stay alert.
Then, the next day, he hired maintenance staff to install new locks and cameras throughout his house and in the backyard. He decided to watch what was happening around his home to prevent Bob or anyone else from trying to enter again.
Dolores spent the whole day watching the images on the security camera and did not notice anything out of the ordinary. She went to bed that night, relieved, thinking that Bob would be scared after his previous warning.
However, a loud noise in the backyard woke her up startled around midnight. “The first thing that came to my mind was that it could have been Bob again!”

He ran to the living room and turned on the monitor to see the surveillance cameras, but the backyard cameras were broken, which alerted Dolores to the fact that someone had entered her property.
She tiptoed to the kitchen window, remaining calm and unmoved. He slightly lifted the window blind and noticed two people dressed in black wandering around his house.
Dolores couldn’t recognize them because their faces were hidden. However, he heard them discussing the robbery of his house. He decided that he had to devise a strategy to save himself before it was too late.
Dolores immediately called 911 and informed them that someone had broken into the backyard of her house. The dispatcher assured him that the police would arrive soon and advised him not to panic.
She went to the kitchen with the portrait of her husband after hanging up the phone, determined to catch the thieves who had tried to enter. “Oh, Victor!” she said loudly from the kitchen as if she were talking to her late husband. “I miss you a lot, honey! Why did you leave me like this?”
As she said that, she noticed the silhouettes of the two intruders approaching the backyard door that had a thin white curtain that made them visible to her.
“Honey, I still haven’t touched the antiques you left in the garage!” she continued. “The old gold watch of your grandfather, as well as the old silver flute that your great-grandfather gave us for our wedding, are safely stored in the garage.”
“You promised that we would open a small store in our house. Those antiques are worth thousands of dollars and have been waiting for you all the time!”
The widow noticed that the shadows became lighter and lighter as she mentioned the value of the antiques, and then they disappeared completely. He ran to the living room to see the camera images and saw one of the intruders breaking the camera in his garage. Dolores knew it was time to catch them!
He grabbed Victor’s baseball bat, the gas sprayer and a padlock, and silently opened the backyard door. He walked until he reached the garage, and when he saw the two men, he poured pepper spray on their faces and closed the doors before the thieves could escape.

He also tried to close it from the outside, but the two thieves struggled to open the doors. Fortunately, the cops got to that point, and when they saw the old woman fighting, they ran to help her and immediately arrested the thieves.
One of the officers, Luis Rodríguez, took off the masks from the intruders, and Dolores was not surprised when she saw that one of them was Bob! His suspicions were correct! “I knew it!” he said.
The officer looked at Dolores, perplexed. “Do you know who it is, ma’am?”
“Yes, officer!” the widow replied. “Live in this neighborhood. I saw him with another man in my backyard a few days ago.”
“Well, ma’am, you don’t have to worry now,” the policeman reassured her. “I’ll make sure you never see them in the neighborhood again. Do you live alone, ma’am?”
“Yes, official. My husband died two months ago and my son lives abroad. He rarely visits me because he is very busy with his work.”
“Well, ma’am,” said Officer Rodriguez. “Crimes are increasing every day and it is dangerous to live alone. By the way, he did a good job trying to lock them in the garage.”
“Oh,” Dolores blushed. “I pretended to be talking to my late husband and have some antiques in the garage. I knew they could hear me from the kitchen, so the plan worked.”
“I’m quite impressed, ma’am. I’m glad he didn’t get scared and caught them! Please stay safe.”
“Sure, officer,” Dolores replied, as the policemen withdrew from the place.

The older woman followed Rodríguez’s advice and told her son everything that happened. Braulio was very worried and told Dolores to move in with him.
Dolores didn’t want to move because she and Victor had many memories in their old house. Then Braulio moved with his family to his mother’s town after requesting a transfer at work.
Dolores and Claire, Carlos’ wife, now manage Victor’s store together. They renamed it by calling it: “The treasure house of Dolores and Victor.”
