Devont Gardner, a hardworking father of two, always wears a smile and quickly formed a bond with Kaizen and his family. “I always stay positive,” said Devont. “I love seeing smiles on everyone’s faces.” His kindness left an impact on Kaizen. “Devont is just a good person,” Kaizen stated. “Truly a good guy. Very kind to everyone he meets.”

After a year of greetings, shared meals, and jokes, Kaizen’s family discovered the truth behind Devont’s bright smile. Devont, his wife, and their two daughters had been living in a cheap motel for the past eight months. Their previous apartment was infested with bugs and had black mold, which made their children sick.
Every dollar Devont earned went toward food, clothing, and shelter for his kids, and the struggle was tough. Since he couldn’t afford a car, he had to walk to work every day. But he continued to come to work with a smile, ready to serve customers and make friends, including Kaizen.

Kaizen immediately knew he wanted to help his friend. He went home and told his mother, Vittoria Hunter, that he wanted to raise funds to help Devont buy a new car. Little did Kaizen know that his efforts would greatly benefit Devont’s family!

Their initial goal was $5,000, but soon the word spread throughout their community. As of now, over $100,000 has been raised on GoFundMe!
Devont was deeply grateful to Kaizen and his family. Thanks to the big-hearted little boy, his family could start recovering after the daily struggle to survive. This story is a testament to the magic of friendship… and waffles!
