I discovered this among my grandfather’s possessions. He was born in 1924, practiced medicine, and served in the Navy. Is there anybody who can identify this?
Surprised A user shared an image of an unusual object, which ultimately had no relation to his occupation. 😱 Have you figured what it is? If not, this is the response ⬇️⬇️⬇️ While rummaging through my grandfather’s antiquities, I discovered an unusual metallic artefact. It was antiquated, dulled by time, with peculiar carvings and a chain. Inside, two little circular frames were present, with a spring positioned between them.
The object evidently served a certain function, however I was unable to ascertain its purpose. My grandpa, born in 1924, was a physician and had a lengthy tenure in the navy, leading me to presume it may pertain to his vocation. It may have been an antiquated medical instrument or a military apparatus. However, I was unable to ascertain its actual purpose. I choose to share a photograph online.
I captured images from various perspectives. Responses were prompt. Some said it was a medical apparatus for pill storage, while others asserted it was a device for currency collection or a nautical item for map storage. However, none of the alternatives seemed suitable to me. Subsequently, some hours later, a genuine authority on antiques emerged in the comments. This is a spring coin holder.
These products were used in the late 19th and early 20th centuries when individuals often carried coinage and sought pragmatic methods for their storage. This box is designed to hold coins that can be easily accessed due to the spring mechanism. It probably does not pertain to your grandfather’s occupation, but may have been a personal possession he valued for its sophistication and practicality.
Found this among my grandfather’s things, he was born in 1924 and was a doctor, does anyone know what this is
