I recently invested a significant amount of money—$6,500 to be exact—on a registered Black Angus bull. He was a fine specimen, with a shiny black coat and a strong, muscular build. I had high hopes for him. After all, he was meant to be the pride of my herd and a key player in my cattle operation. I put him out with the cows, expecting him to do what bulls do best. But to my surprise, he did nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Day after day, the bull simply wandered around the pasture, munching on grass without a care in the world. He didn’t even glance at the cows, who seemed quite interested in him. I watched from a distance, growing more frustrated and worried with each passing day. I started to think I had made a mistake—a very expensive mistake.
A week went by, and still, the bull showed no signs of interest in the cows. I was beginning to think that I had paid more for this bull than he was worth. I could hear the dollars slipping away with every lazy chew of grass. I couldn’t take it anymore. I called the vet, hoping he could shed some light on the situation.
The vet arrived, a kind man with years of experience and a calm demeanor. He examined the bull thoroughly, checking his eyes, ears, and everything in between. After a while, he turned to me with a thoughtful expression. “Well,” he said, “the bull seems to be in perfect health. There’s nothing physically wrong with him.”
I sighed, feeling my frustration bubble over. “Then why isn’t he doing his job?” I asked, exasperated.
The vet paused for a moment, then smiled. “Sometimes, bulls just need a little encouragement,” he said. “I have a special supplement that might help. It’s sort of like a pick-me-up for bulls. Let me give him a shot, and we’ll see how he responds.”
I was skeptical but willing to try anything at this point. The vet administered the shot, and we waited. At first, nothing seemed to change. The bull continued grazing, as usual, oblivious to the cows nearby. But then, after about an hour, something incredible happened.
The bull lifted his head, looked around
, and suddenly seemed to notice the cows for the first time. His whole demeanor changed. He perked up, his eyes brightened, and he started moving with a newfound energy and purpose.
Within minutes, he was chasing after the cows with a determination I had never seen before. I couldn’t believe my eyes. The once-apathetic bull had turned into the energetic breeder I had hoped for. The vet chuckled and gave me a reassuring pat on the back. “Looks like he’s found his spark,” he said with a grin
