A man was surprised to see his mother-in-law sitting next to her boss in her car the day after he kicked her out. “Oh my God!” thought the man, shocked. He had no idea how his mother-in-law had become friends with his boss.
Even after working tirelessly for the past two decades, Jacob believed he hadn’t achieved enough to consider himself a successful man. At 43 years old, he still thought he could do much better, but his wife, Laura, thought otherwise.
He met Laura at work, but she later quit and started her own business. Since she graduated in marketing from one of the best business schools in the country, she knew how to attract clients with little effort.

When Jacob saw his wife’s business flourish, he felt intimidated and developed an inferiority complex. “I don’t think I can ever be as good as her,” he told himself.
After marrying Laura, Jacob felt that his parents didn’t like her because he wasn’t as wealthy as they were. Laura came from a wealthy family, while Jacob’s parents weren’t so rich. However, Laura always told her husband that it was all in his head and that her parents had nothing against him.
Jacob’s insecurity grew over time, but he never listened to his wife. To cope with his insecurities, he focused more on his work and did everything possible to get a promotion. He spent most of the day in his office and came home late every night.
One day, Jacob’s wife called him at work and said something unexpected. “Jacob… please come home right now,” Laura said with a trembling voice. “Dad passed away.”
“Oh my God!” exclaimed Jacob, and he immediately left his workplace. He comforted his wife and helped with the funeral arrangements. A few days later, Laura told her husband she wanted her mother to live with them.
“Jacob, you know my mom has felt lonely since Dad died,” she said. “I’ve offered for her to stay here with us.”

“What? How can you do that without asking me?” Jacob replied to his wife.
“Why would I ask you? She’s my mother, and she needs me right now.”

Two days later, Laura’s mother, Melissa, called and told her she was ready to move in with them. Laura was Melissa’s only daughter, so she had no other choice but to live with her daughter until she felt ready to live alone.

“I don’t think she’ll ever leave!” said Jacob, quite upset, then left the room.
Once Melissa moved in, Jacob did everything possible to annoy her so she would leave soon. He picked fights with her on purpose, and they often argued.
One day, Jacob was attending an online meeting with his boss from his room when Melissa suddenly burst in. “I’m sorry, Jacob. But you won’t get a promotion this year,” his boss told him.

Once everyone was seated at the table, Jacob questioned Melissa about what was going on.

“I’ve known this guy for decades, Jacob!” Melissa chuckled. “I used to work as a secretary for his father when he was a child. I even babysat him a couple of times when his father wasn’t around.”
Melissa also told Jacob she recognized Mateo while talking to him in a video call.
“I recognized him immediately when I saw him on your laptop screen that day,” she added.
Jacob was stunned. He couldn’t believe what his mother-in-law had just told him.
“Yes, Jacob,” Mateo added with a smile. “I had no idea Melissa was your mother-in-law. It’s a small world, isn’t it?”
