Surprising the Doctors at Birth
The first pair of twins was born to a British family in 2001. One girl had dark skin, dark hair, and brown eyes, while the other was light-skinned with blonde hair and blue eyes. It seemed as though children from different parents were accidentally placed in the same crib. Doctors were amazed by the twins because such a chance occurs only once in 500,000.
This happens when two separate egg cells are fertilized by different sperm cells. Each ends up with its own set of genes. Regular twins, on the other hand, result from the fertilization of a single egg cell, which then divides into several embryos.
As the girls grew up, the most challenging thing for the family was proving that they were twins. Many took them for best friends but not sisters.
“In childhood, we were like celebrities. Everyone wanted to take a picture with us and asked us what it’s like to be twins but different. For us, it was normal. It’s like having a best friend. People just don’t believe we are twins—then we tell them to Google our names.”
Seven years later, another pair of twin girls was born to the couple, and once again, they turned out to be completely different. This case was already one in a million.
Therefore, the family attracted the attention of the Guinness World Records committee. The children were recognized as the world’s only two pairs of twins in one family with different skin tones.
The older daughters always spend time together; they are practically inseparable. The girls confirm that they have a special bond, often attributed to twins.
“We say the same thing at the same time and finish each other’s sentences. Sometimes I know exactly what she’s thinking. But we are different—Hayley loves makeup, and I like video games and bloggers. She doesn’t like that.”
The older sisters have not yet found boyfriends, but they are not worried about it. The girls have different tastes, so they are sure they won’t quarrel over men.
Hayley and Lauren are now 20 years old, while their sisters, Lee and Mia, are 13. The younger ones are also inseparable and always support each other.
There is a very close bond between them. They learned from their older sisters how to perceive themselves and their appearance correctly and how to respond to strangers’ silly questions.
The main thing is that the difference in appearance does not interfere with the twins’ friendship and does not spoil their relationship. They feel special, and that makes them happy.
