A woman discovered that she was not the biological mother of her seven-year-old son, but that’s where the situation became confusing: the child’s father was not either.
Pedro and Victoria Mijares were an adorable couple, loved by the people of their neighborhood. The two began as playmates in kindergarten, and when they grew up enough to recognize love, they got engaged to each other.

Thus, the two best friends became husband and wife. Theirs was the best relationship; there were no fights, and their minor disputes never saw the light of a new day. One of their rules was that disagreements should be resolved before they went to bed.

Pedro was an introvert with a very flexible nature, while his wife was a stubborn extrovert who spoke above all in the relationship.
They were a perfect couple, and when they were both in their thirties, they welcomed their first child and called him Paul. They got even closer to each other after the birth of their son.
People smiled whenever they saw how in love these two were with each other. On the other hand, his son was everything to them. They filled him with a lot of love.
As the baby grew, they began to notice some things; their son had absolutely no physical resemblance to any of them. They didn’t reach that conclusion right away, of course.
The pressure was on Pedro at first. His friends began to mock because his son seemed to have no physical resemblance to him, and he didn’t like hearing that at all.
“You must have really weak genes,” one of his friends joked one day.
This not only made him feel terrible; comments like this planted dirty thoughts in his head that didn’t have to be there.
Even so, he couldn’t deny himself that his friends were right. He often looked at his son and saw no trace of himself in him, but their relationship was excellent; in fact, the boy loved him.

Every time they spent time together, which was often, Pedro couldn’t help but wonder if there could be any truth in his friends’ sick jokes. But he never said a word to his wife for fear of how he would take it.
A few years later, it became even more evident: Paul was not Pedro’s son. The man would have let the jokes go if his son had looked a little like his wife because that would mean that he really had weak genes.
But at the age of four, the boy didn’t look like her at all either, which meant there was a third. The other relatives who visited them frequently were the first to express their opinion.
“Well, you know that children grow and change over time, I’m sure that in a few years you will look like your strong father,” Victoria told them.
“Victoria is right,” Pedro said. If there was any truth in the possibility that Paul was not his son, he did not want his extended family to find out until he was ready to do so.
Seven years later, there was no doubt about it. Paul was nothing like his parents or theirs. One night, Pedro pluned up courage and asked his wife directly.
“I have trusted you all my life Vic,” he began. “But I need to know the truth tonight. Is Paul my son?”
His wife had also been thinking about that, so when she asked, she felt trapped. He made her respond sarcastically. “Of course, he is my son with another man, because I have not been loyal to you in my entire adult life.”

Pedro didn’t like sarcasm, so later that week, he took the liberty of performing a secret DNA test. The test confirmed that he was not the biological father of the child they were raising, and that made him very angry: “I have only been good with her and that’s how he pays me,” he thought furiously.
He returned home that day with all the intention of confronting his wife, but when he saw her helping his supposed son with the homework, he had to calm down.
He didn’t want the boy to witness what was about to happen, so he sent him to play with other children in the yard. As soon as the boy left, he presented the results of the test and accused Victoria of infidelity.
She was surprised, first by her audacity to do such a thing, and second, by the fact that the child did not really belong to her. In reality, he was the only man she had been with. How could he not be the father of his son?
“Well, if you’re not his father, then I’m not his mother either,” Victoria exclaimed.
Pedro didn’t believe him and they both went to bed angry. The next day, Victoria also took the DNA test, and when the results arrived, they revealed that Paul was not her biological son either.
The situation confused her, and when she told her husband, he also felt puzzled. They sat down for a long discussion on the subject, after which they decided to return to the hospital where she gave birth to her son.
They were referred to a man who promised to investigate after hearing his version of the facts. He told them that there was a possibility that one or both tests were wrong, but that he would try to get to the bottom of the mystery.

Pedro and Victoria returned home and worked hard to keep their son away from whatever was happening. They did not treat him differently, and continued to fill him with love: he was the child they had raised for years, and that would not change.
A week later, the hospital man approached them. I had found two files: one for the child they were raising and the second for another child born at the same time.

Apparently, the children had been mistakenly changed at birth and the other couple, without knowing it, had taken their biological child. It was a shocking revelation, but Pedro and Victoria were glad that it would not have been because of the infidelity of either of them.
They decided to locate the family that was raising their real son, which was difficult because a long time had passed. It took them a few months, but they managed to find them and told them everything they had discovered.
The couple was surprised, but when they saw Paul, they realized how much he looked like them. Pedro and Victoria also saw their son. His name was Kevin and he looked a lot like his father.
“Now I know I don’t have weak genes,” he muttered to himself when he saw Kevin for the first time.
Both parties would have loved to exchange children at that time, but they had fallen in love with the children they raised. They decided to keep in close contact while raising the children they took home from the hospital on that fateful day of delivery.

What did we learn from this story?
Communication is important. Pedro suspected that Victoria had been unfaithful. Even so, he couldn’t talk to her about it, and when he finally did, she didn’t understand the severity of his words. That lack of communication led him to take a DNA test and, although it helped them find the truth, he could have separated them easily.
Love must be unconditional. Even after Pedro and Victoria discovered that Paul was not their biological son, they could not stop loving him. It didn’t matter that he barely looked like them; all they cared about was the child they had raised. He saw them as his parents, and the fact that he looked like someone else didn’t change that.
