A poor, lonely old woman named Emma began receiving daily deliveries from an unknown source. She and her late husband had never had children together, so she had no way of knowing where these deliveries were coming from.
When Emma Richards’ husband passed away seven years ago, she was devastated. She now had to live the rest of her life alone, taking care of herself since there was no one else to do it for her.
She and her husband, John, never had children who could care for her. Whenever someone asked Emma why, she would simply shrug and avoid answering.
One day, as Emma sat in her room watching television, the doorbell rang. Since she wasn’t expecting visitors, she decided to see who it was.
When she opened the front door, a delivery man in his forties stood there, holding several boxes. He was wearing a mask, making it difficult for her to see his face clearly.
“Hello. I’m not expecting any packages from anyone. May I know who sent these?” Emma asked.
“I’m sorry, ma’am, but these packages were sent anonymously. Rest assured, our security has checked them, and they’re completely safe. They’re for you,” he said, placing the boxes on Emma’s table near the door.
“That’s strange… Thank you, young man,” Emma replied before closing the door.
Once the delivery man left, Emma quickly opened the boxes, eager to see what was inside. In the first box, she found small household appliances—a brand-new toaster, a sandwich press, and a coffee maker.
“Who would send me all this?” she wondered. She opened the second box and found beautiful clothes along with groceries.
Day after day, Emma continued receiving more packages. It was always the same delivery man, so she decided to get to know him.
“What’s your name, young man?” she asked.
“My name is Ted Harrison,” the delivery man smiled. “Mrs. Richards, the sender asked me to give you this. I’ll wait while you read it,” he added, handing her an envelope.
Curious, Emma opened it and quickly read the note. It said:
“Mrs. Richards, please let me know what you need, and I will provide it for you.”
“Oh, I’m dying to know who sent me all this! And now they even want me to make requests!” she exclaimed.
“I’m sure the sender cares for you deeply, even if you don’t know who they are,” Ted smiled.
Emma complied and wrote down only the essentials, not wanting this person to spend too much on her.
From that brief encounter, Emma started preparing quick snacks for Ted whenever he came by. For an entire month, he delivered packages containing clothes, food, books, and other thoughtful gifts.
Over time, Emma grew accustomed to Ted’s company. He would spend time with her, sharing snacks, and even volunteering to do household chores she struggled with.
But one day, Ted didn’t come. Suddenly worried, Emma decided to visit the local post office to look for him.
“Hello, could you please call Ted Harrison? I just wanted to give him some donuts,” she asked the young woman at the front desk.
The woman looked confused.
“I’m sorry, ma’am. There is no one named Ted Harrison working here,” she replied.
“Oh… but he delivers my packages every day. That’s strange,” Emma said, feeling disappointed. She had no idea where to find Ted, and that troubled her.
She returned home, her mind racing with questions. Who was this kind-hearted stranger? Had she gone to the wrong post office? Was Ted even a real delivery man?
When she arrived at her doorstep, she was surprised to see a small box waiting for her. Inside, she found a key and a note that read:
“I only learned the truth a month ago when I decided to hire a private investigator to trace my origins. I know you carry guilt and regret for what happened, but I want you to know that I don’t blame you. I understand that you only wanted the best for me.
You and your husband couldn’t afford to raise me, so you placed me for adoption. I was taken in by a wealthy family who treated me as their own, yet something always felt missing. I now realize that it was you, Mom.
I’ve missed you in my life, and I’d love to spend more time with you. If you’re willing, I recently bought a new home, and I had a duplicate key made for you in case you’d like to move in with me. Please, let me take care of you.
With love, your delivery man, Ted.”
Emma trembled as she finished reading the note. She had longed to see her son before she passed, and now, she couldn’t believe it was him who had found her. And that son was Ted!
She couldn’t hold back her tears as guilt from the past washed over her once more.
Everything Ted had discovered was true. Emma and John had been on the brink of financial ruin when they found out she was pregnant. They knew they couldn’t provide a stable life for a child, so they made the painful decision to place Ted for adoption.
They left their baby at an orphanage when he was only a few months old. With him, Emma had left a letter explaining why they couldn’t raise him. It was anonymous, but after convincing the orphanage directors to reveal details about his adoption records, Ted had found Emma’s name.
Emma wanted to see Ted immediately. She hurriedly prepared to leave her house and find him, but before she could step out, there was a knock at the door.
When she opened it, she saw Ted standing there.
“Hi, Mom,” Ted said softly.
Emma burst into tears. “I can’t believe it. My son,” she sobbed, pulling him into a hug and refusing to let go. “I’m so sorry, my love. I truly am. I hope you can forgive me,” she cried.
“You don’t need to apologize, Mom. I’m here because I want to spend more time with you. It’s not too late to start over. We can still be a family,” Ted said before breaking their long embrace.
That night, Ted and Emma packed up her belongings. A moving truck waited outside, ready to take her things to Ted’s home.
When they arrived, Emma was surprised to meet Ted’s wife and children. They were just as excited as Ted to welcome her into their home. And from that day on, Emma was never alone again.
