When Alicia returned home after a business trip, she found a baby lying in her bed next to her husband. Her husband’s explanation made no sense, but she was tired. However, the shocking truth made sense a few hours later, when he woke up.
After a long business trip to New York, Alicia was finally at home, in Miami, and longed to rest in her bed with her husband Lucas. He walked carefully around the house, taking off his jacket and trying not to make noise. It was night and Lucas had no idea that she had returned.

She was supposed to be back in three days, but Alicia managed to finish her work early and decided to take a return flight as soon as possible. Unfortunately, that meant arriving in Miami after midnight. But that was fine. Lucas would be surprised when he woke up next to his wife in the morning.

They kept in touch while she was away, but a month was too long for a business trip. Never again, Alicia thought when she finally arrived at her bedroom.
Luckily, he didn’t have to turn on the lights because the moon illuminated the room. She saw her husband’s figure on the bed and heard his slight snoring, she moved quickly to put on her pajamas.
But he stopped when he saw a small lump on his side of the bed. There was a pillow on the edge so that the baby would not roll and fall to the other side. But Alicia and Lucas had no children. What’s going on here? Where did you get that baby?

Lucas had no family, since he had been raised in an orphanage, so the boy could not be a nephew. So, what was going on here?, she wondered shocked.
She went to the other side of the bed and woke up her husband. “Lucas! Lucas! Wake up!”, she tried to maintain a whispering tone, but she was too scared for anything. Fortunately, the baby didn’t listen, but her husband felt her hand on his arm.
“What? Who? … Alicia? What are you doing here?” he said.

“See you in the kitchen right now!” she whispered and walked away.
Lucas followed her slowly and looked at his wife sleepily. “Get early.”
“Yes, whatever. Who is that baby, Lucas? What’s going on here?” she questioned angrily.
“I’m not sure, Alicia. Someone left it at our door a few days ago, and I’ve been taking care of it,” he replied.
“What? That doesn’t make sense! Let’s call the police.”
“Yes, we have to do it, but I keep forgetting while I take care of it. Listen, I’m too tired to have this conversation. And you’re probably tired of the trip too. Let’s go to bed and think about what to do in the morning, okay?”

“No, we have to solve it right now!” Alicia exclaimed.
“Shut up, please. It’s too late. You’re going to wake up the baby. Please, let’s go to sleep,” Lucas insisted and walked back to the bedroom, without waiting for Alicia’s answer.
“Good,” she whispered and followed him. He lay down on the other side of the baby. Surprisingly, Alicia fell asleep quickly and didn’t dream that night.

That day, at seven in the morning…
Alicia woke up with the sound of some voices. He got up and saw that Lucas and the baby were not there, so he left the room.
“Lucas, when are you going to tell him? This can’t go on like this!”, said an annoyed woman.

“Please lower your voice. I don’t know how to tell him, OK?” Lucas said in a lower tone, hoping that Alicia wouldn’t wake up.
But now I was wide awake. Who is it? Is it about the baby? Is it his secret mother? Alicia worried and wondered if she should show herself and face them.
“Please, let’s give him some time. I’ll tell you when the DNA results come out,” Lucas begged, and Alicia was speechless.
“DNA test? He left someone pregnant, and now they were doing tests to see if it’s the father? I can’t let this continue,” he thought. Alicia went straight into the living room and saw Lucas talking to a woman who was standing at the door of the house.
“What’s going on here? I want the truth right now, Lucas. I’ve heard everything. What DNA test? Are you the mother?” she asked, crossing her arms over her chest.
But, surprisingly, the stranger smiled. “Baby’s mom?” he said and laughed.

“There’s nothing funny about this. Lucas, have you cheated on me with this woman?” Alicia almost screamed.
“No! No! I swear! I would never do that. Please listen to me,” Lucas begged, walking towards her with his hand in front.
“You have ten seconds!” said Alicia.
“This is my sister, Linda.”
Alicia lowered her arms. “What?”
“Linda and I met two weeks ago by chance. Look, honey. She’s just like me. We met at the supermarket and we were surprised by our resemblance. We started talking and realized that we were both orphans. Now we are waiting for the results of a DNA test to confirm it. But we are quite sure because our childhood experiences were similar. I think I remember playing with her in the orphanage, but it’s a blurry memory,” Lucas explained.
“It’s crazy,” Alice whispered, looking at the woman. But Lucas was right. The woman looked a lot like him.
Lucas continued: “We’ve gotten pretty close since then, and she had an emergency last night. He asked me to take care of his baby, Antonio. I was too tired to explain it before, but there it is.”

Alicia calmed down and invited Linda in to hear her version of the story. Lucas also apologized for not telling him before, but he didn’t want to ruin his important business trip with that complicated news.
“Anyway, the results are supposed to come out in a few days and then, we’ll see. You can see them with my husband and corroborate that we are not lying. But I really hope it’s true because not having a family is the worst,” Linda said.
Alicia was happy to know that Linda had a husband. He made the story much more plausible, and he forgave Lucas for the lie quite quickly, since Antonio was super chite.
A few days later, the results confirmed that they were brothers, and they decided to spend more time together. Alicia was happy that Lucas had a nephew to adore, and always thought that family mattered more than anything in the world.
What can we learn from this story?
Don’t lie to your partner: Things could have gone wrong for Lucas if Alicia hadn’t patiently waited for an explanation. So it’s better not to lie to your partner.
Family is the most important thing in life: Appreciate your relatives because many people would like to have them.
