Doctors looked at Olya strangely when she said she had been poisoned, but they didn’t argue. They asked her to pack things for the hospital. It was there that she discovered the cause of her severe stomach pains wasn’t from the pastry she bought in the passage, as she thought in the morning.
The woman noticed the ambulance was going in the opposite direction. “Well, maybe there’s traffic in the city!” crossed her mind. Then she realized they were heading to the hospital.
• In which month are you? the doctor asked, and Galya almost burst out laughing.
• I’m not pregnant! Doctor, what are you talking about?
“I don’t know what to tell you, dear. But your stomach pains are not from poisoning, but from contractions! And given their intensity, you should be giving birth pretty soon!”
While the doctor said this, the contractions only increased, and a few hours later, her son was born. But as the woman tried to collect herself, she felt that someone else wanted to be born — a daughter!
“Imagine where my husband and I haven’t been, and everyone told us the same thing — in vain. And here’s a gift from heaven!” Galya said, tightly embracing her babies.
