This tender-hearted little girl exhibits such deep empathy that it can melt your own heart and make you reflect on what you would be willing to do to help others. Lilian, a first-grader in Altus, Oklahoma, approached her tearful father after learning that her friend didn’t have her own toys to play with.
The Linton family has a rule: not to take toys outside due to the risk of losing some of them. However, little Lilian insisted on bringing her toys out of the house, becoming emotional as she explained to her parents the reason: her friend didn’t have her own toys to play with.
Lilian’s father, Jason, recounts, “We often buy toys for charity to help children in need. We talk to Lilian about people who need help, and she really takes those conversations to heart.”
After learning about her friend’s challenging situation, there was no hesitation: she immediately sought her father’s permission to share her toys with the other girl. “She wanted the other one to be happy,” Jason shares. “It was so hard not to cry while helping her overcome this.”
When it comes to giving, consider what you would be willing to do to help children in need. There are many wonderful charitable organizations and foundations that can easily connect you with those who need your assistance. It’s also a precious time to teach your children valuable lessons about gratitude, compassion, empathy, and kindness.
